Understanding PSE's Two Rebate Programs

Puget Sound Energy serves approximately 1.2 million electric customers across portions of King, Pierce, Thurston, Kittitas, Skagit, Whatcom, and Snohomish counties in Washington State. The utility operates two distinct EV charger rebate programs and understanding which one applies to your household makes a significant financial difference.

The standard PSE Up and Go Electric Home Charging Program pays up to $300 for purchasing and installing a qualifying ENERGY STAR Smart Level 2 EV charger from PSE's prequalified product list. You can receive this as an instant rebate when purchasing through the PSE Marketplace or as a reimbursement after submitting your receipt and installation documentation within 60 days of installation. One rebate is allowed per qualifying single-family residence within a 5-year window.

The PSE Empower Mobility program is a dramatically more generous program for income-qualified customers. Qualifying households receive up to $600 for the charger itself plus up to $2,000 toward installation costs. For a household where a standard PSE installation might cost $1,500 total, the Empower Mobility program could cover essentially the entire cost. This program reflects PSE's commitment to ensuring that EV adoption benefits extend beyond high-income households.

Important: PSE serves suburban Seattle but not Seattle city proper, which is served by Seattle City Light. Tacoma is served by Tacoma Power. Confirm your utility by checking your electricity bill before applying. Only chargers on PSE's prequalified ENERGY STAR Smart product list qualify for the rebate.

Income-qualified customers through the Empower Mobility program receive up to $600 for the charger plus up to $2,000 toward installation costs. Empower Mobility is PSE's income-qualified EV charging program for customers whose household income falls within eligible guidelines. Qualifying customers receive up to $600 for a qualifying EV home charger and up to $2,000 toward installation costs. Income eligibility is based on household size and income relative to the area median income. Puget Sound Energy serves the greater Seattle area but not Seattle city proper. Seattle city is served by Seattle City Light, a separate municipal utility with its own programs. PSE serves Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Renton, Kent, Auburn, Federal Way, Puyallup, Issaquah, Sammamish, and most of King County outside Seattle city limits. Tacoma is served by Tacoma Power. Check your electricity bill to confirm which utility serves your address. Only PSE customers can access PSE rebates.
Yes. The PSE rebate and the federal 30 percent Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit can generally be combined for installations completed through June 30, 2026. A standard PSE customer paying $1,500 for installation could receive $300 from PSE and up to $360 from the federal credit leaving a net out-of-pocket cost of $840. An income-qualified Empower Mobility customer on the same $1,500 installation could receive $600 for the charger plus $900 toward installation, potentially covering the entire cost. A tax professional can confirm the correct federal credit calculation for your specific situation.
